Woodland Floor

It’s February and the trees and ground wait for spring

This was taken in Kennick wood, near the small village of Laurieston a few miles from Castle Douglas. For me this image sums up what a lot of our local woodland looks like in the quiet months of winter. It’s an area of constant regeneration; new trees grow tall, others decay and die or are ‘managed’ into logs and mini wildlife habitats. The woodland floor is littered with all sorts of cut logs, branches, twigs, cones and pine needles.
