The day was essentially divided into three key areas. Part one was aimed at refreshing and developing basic camera skills and encouraging them to think about light, its direction and quality, helped with reflectors. Part two was about ‘having a vision’ and thinking about the background and the light at a particular location. Part three then included some simple posing work followed by practical sessions bringing all the elements of the day together; taking lots of pictures. They worked in pairs for most of the day, with each having the opportunity to work both within a studio lighting set up and also using natural light.
The facilities at St Ninian’s Memorial Hall were ideal with plenty of space for everyone to find their own ‘space’ to work with their partner.
I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Alec Blackadder for his support throughout the day. In particular when looking after the studio sessions when his skills in coaching our newly skilled portrait photographers and two volunteer models was a joy to watch.
Following the day I’ve been approached by other members of the club who were unable to attend this time, asking if the course could be run again at some time in the future? All I can say is it would be a pleasure, we would just need to a minimum number of about 8 -10 people.
